Why We Chose Okorocha Over Ihedioha – Chief Charles Amadi (Charvon) Reveals, Addresses Son’s Gubernatorial Ambition

During the 2015 Governorship Election, the Owerri Zone Political Leaders Forum (OZOPOLF) emerged as a key player in the effort to elect a governor from the Owerri Zone in Imo State. Led by a prominent Ikeduru-born billionaire, the group mobilized support from Owerri sons and daughters, gaining significant political influence and becoming instrumental in political mobilization, alliances, and funding.

However, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) failed to capitalize on OZOPOLF’s extensive network and support. The convener and sponsor of OZOPOLF attributes this failure to two individuals from Mbaise, a sub-region of the Owerri Zone.

Why OZOPOLF Supported Rochas Okorocha

Reflecting on the transition period following Senator Hope Uzodimma’s tenure, it’s crucial to understand why OZOPOLF ultimately supported Rochas Okorocha in 2015, resulting in a significant loss for the Owerri Zone. This interview provides insights into the key event, and lessons to prevent a recurrence in 2027.

In late 2014, Emeka Ihedioha, a PDP candidate, initially supported OZOPOLF with donations and regular engagement. However, after securing the PDP nomination, his attitude changed. He became inaccessible and dismissed meeting requests from OZOPOLF leaders. After a discussion within OZOPOLF, the issue was raised with Chief Tony Chukwu, who arranged a reconciliation meeting.

At the meeting, Chief Chukwu emphasized the need for cooperation between Ihedioha and OZOPOLF to ensure electoral success. Surprisingly, Ihedioha declined to speak, delegating the task to Chief Austin Cosmas, who arrogantly declared that the “Mbaise Nation” had taken over the project, reducing OZOPOLF’s role to mere supporters. This dismissive stance angered Chief Chukwu and strained relations further.

Faced with this arrogance and exclusion, OZOPOLF decided to ally with Rochas Okorocha, who welcomed their support. OZOPOLF’s significant voting strength contributed to Okorocha’s victory, underscoring the consequences of Ihedioha’s disregard for broader collaboration.

Preparing for 2027
OZOPOLF is now preparing for the 2027 elections, with a renewed commitment to the Owerri Zone’s cause. They plan to work with allies in Orlu and Okigwe zones to ensure a power shift to the Owerri Zone, emphasizing equity and collective success.

The group’s confidence is bolstered by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s repeated promises to support an Owerri Zone candidate in 2027. OZOPOLF trusts the Governor to honor his commitment, ensuring a smooth transition and political stability in Imo State.

Addressing Rumors of Son’s Gubernatorial Ambition:
When asked about his son, Honorable Akarachi Amadi, potentially running for governorship in 2027, Charvon clarified that his son’s eligibility would be determined by his age and constitutional provisions. He reaffirmed his belief in Governor Uzodimma’s integrity and commitment to supporting an Owerri Zone candidate despite any external pressure.

In conclusion, OZOPOLF is dedicated to achieving political equity and fairness in Imo State, ready to support Governor Uzodimma’s chosen successor from the Owerri Zone, ensuring a prosperous future for all.
